Megan's Story
Megan was born with a congenital heart defect which was corrected
by surgery when she was 4 weeks old.
She spent 6 weeks in intensive care having to fight off several
infections before she was strong enough to come off the ventilator.
After this traumatic start to life it became clear over Megan’s
first year that she had other problems. At 13 months she was diagnosed
with athetoid cerebral palsy.
Our physiotherapist, using the Bobath method, helped us to get
Megan sitting but at 15 months we were introduced to the Scotson
Therapy. At this stage Megan could sit but she had very little control
of her limbs and had very poor posture. We started the therapy with
great anticipation and were not disappointed. Megan’s progress
has been extraordinary and the recovery of better posture very promising.
Megan began to walk just before her
3rd Birthday and this walking has improved and she is now at 5yrs
beginning to run and jump. At 18 months Megan was diagnosed as being
profoundly deaf and just before her 3rd Birthday she had a cochlear
implant fitted.
The Scotson therapy has helped her with her listening skills and
speech. Megan can understand a lot of speech now and is just beginning
to succeed with saying a few words.
We can not recommend The Scotson Therapy highly enough. It is demanding
on our time but Megan is living proof of its worth.
