The Scotson Technique |
Typical examples of what parents say
Melanie proud mom:
My two miracles Renata now 6y and Pierre 24w, 780g now 5y, 12.6kg - severe CP quad and g-tube. (living in South Africa)
Praise God!!!
I had to take Pierre to 2 different specialists yesterday for follow-up appointments.
Firstly the Neuron surgeon: He examined Pierre and was worried about him, having 2 previous Croniostinosis (skull seems fused to quick and had to be opened due to pressure on the brain) operations, his head circumference did not increase in 18 months. Not totally uncommon for a child his age, but he is still very small for his age and they had expected him to still catch up on growth. So the doctor sends us for a MRI scan. My heart was in my throat.
The previous MRI scan was only a partial scan for Pierre kept on turning in the straps with 3x the sedation. They sedated him, increasing the dose after half an hour and he went through the whole scan like a champion. I asked them not to strap his body in, so they only secured his head lightly, but even in his sleep he kept on squeezing my hand for reassurance.
His previous MRI was taken in May 2003, Pierre’s grey brain matter (IQ part of brain) was normal and in tacked. His white brain matter (motored functions of body) has disintegrated completely and was not visible at all. His cerebellum (where your spine meets brain and used for balance) was absent all together.
They did a CT scan a year later that already showed an improvement, low density white brain matter and his cerebellum looked like 2 peas in a very big pot, but at least it was there! And even then doctors told me that normally brain damage does not, or are not suppose to be able to heal.
Yesterday’s MRI scan was as follow: and here is the true miracle!!!
You can still see that there had been brain damage, but his grey
brain matter and his white brain matter are that of a normal 5 year
old child. His cerebellum has developed to 1/3 of the size it should
be. And he has NO pressure what so ever on his brain, so no need
for another skull operation. I was so relieved, I cried.
Secondly the orthodontist: She was quite satisfied with Pierre’s teeth. No sign of resent reflux visible on his teeth and I can use the “Durashield” that I had put on to protect his teeth monthly, we can put on once every 3-4 months. His upper jaw is biting over a bit, but she expected it to have a way more overbite due to the fact that he loves to put his hands in his mouth. (That is the only thing he would tolerate in his mouth).
Both these doctors wanted to know why Pierre has improved so much. My answer is firstly and foremost God’s grace. Then a wonderful dedicated team of therapist, who never gave up on Pierre, thank you! And then 2 things that made a big difference in Pierre, Scotson therapy and Glyco nutrients. I gave the web pages addresses to both of them.
May you all have a wonderful day filled with God’s grace.
